Not all homemade soap recipes are equal. Some are complicated and make beginners feel overwhelmed, others contain so many ingredients you wonder how to get all these products and some homemade soap recipes can be boring.

 

I have begun collecting and sharing some recipes that might inspire you to make your own creative soaps.

This gentle castile soap contains 90% olive oil and releases an asian inspired blended scent of lime, basil and lemongrass. It is colored naturally with ground sage and tumeric.

Thai Castile Soap

INGREDIENTS

Fats, oils and butters

  • 540 grams olive oil
  • 60 grams castor oil

Lye – distilled water

  • 77 grams lye (sodium hydroxide)
  • 228 grams distilled water

Scent at trace

  • 20 to 36 grams of a blend of lime, basil and lemongrass essential oils  or your favorite essential oils or fragrance oils
  • 2 tablespoons of ground sage
  • 1 tablespoon of tumeric

Take about 1 cup for the soap mixture at trace. Add and mix the sage. Take about 1 cup of the soap mixture at trace. Add and mix the tumeric.

You can swirl these different colors in your mold. 

This homemade soap recipe makes about 2 pounds of soap which will produce about 6-7 bars of natural soap.

Remember that ingredients (except for additives when indicated in volume) need to be weighted and not measured.Fragrance and essential oils should also be weighed.

Juniper Berries Sage Soap

Juniper berries have a piney scent and that are used to flavor gin. They have antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and astringent properties.

Juniper berries and the essential oils extracted from them are claimed to be effective with acne, oily skin, blocked pores as well as psoriasis, eczema and hair loss.

Juniper berries are a detoxifier and cleanser. It is said that this scent removes negativity and relieves anxiety and nervous tension, clearing the path for positive energy.

In soap making it is one of the only botanicals to retain some scent through the saponification process.

  • 180 grams palm oil
  • 180 grams shea butter
  • 120 grams coconut oil
  • 120 gram olive oil

Lye – Water solution

  • 77 grams lye (sodium hydroxide)
  • 228 grams distilled water

Additive and scent at trace

  • 20 to 36 grams of  a blend of juniper berries and sage essential oils or your favorite essential oils or fragrance oils.
  • 1/3 cup of ground juniper berries
  • dozen juniper berries to decorate

This  recipe makes about 2 pounds of soap which will produce about 6-7 bars of natural soap.
